FOWLER COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
F
acilitating trade-related education and outreach is one of
the primary missions of the Center for International Busi-
ness Education & Research at San Diego State University
(SDSU CIBER).
In 2017, for example, SDSU CIBER will lead a trade mission to
Myanmar and Cambodia, offering U.S. exporters and profes-
sors the opportunity to explore new business opportunities in
Southeast Asia.
As a U.S. Department of Education-designated National Cen-
ter of Excellence, SDSU CIBER offers outreach and development
programs for the business community. One of its premier pro-
grams includes facilitating MBA consulting services for California
exporters. In 2016, in partnership with the university’s college of
business, SDSU CIBER worked with 26 companies.
The International Consulting projects are the culminating
experience for graduate students in SDSU’s Fowler College of
Business Administration. The program enables students to
apply research and analysis skills to real-world business situa-
tions, from exploring newmarkets to creating global marketing
campaigns.
Teams of four to six graduate students, under the supervision
of experienced faculty advisors, provide business clients with
fact-based, actionable recommendations. Participating com-
panies receive a customized plan that has beenmeticulously
researched. The program also gives clients early access to the best
and brightest graduate students from the SDSU’s MBA program.
SDSU CIBER also supports trade events for exporters in
Southern California. In Fall 2017, SDSU CIBER will co-host a
Discover Global Market event in San Diego in partnership with
the San Diego & Imperial District Export Council and the other
three California District Export Councils. The programwill
include opportunities for exporters to meet one-on-one with
government trade representatives.
One of only 17 CIBERs nationwide—and the only one in
California—SDSU CIBER assists in linking the workforce and
information needs of U.S. businesses with the business educa-
tion, language training, and research capacities of universities
across the country.
The CIBER programwas created by Congress to increase and
promote the nation’s capacity for international understanding
and competitiveness.
The overall mission of the national CIBER program is to help
ensure the long-term global competitiveness of U.S. compa-
nies by supporting research, education, and business outreach
activities. In California, SDSU CIBER supports San Diego’s
regional economic development strategy and works to provide
export-related education and training.
